Volunteers

The Hopkins Police Department uses qualified non-uniformed volunteers for specified tasks and duties in order to create efficiencies of the department and improve outreach services to the community.  The use of volunteers supplements and supports licensed officers and civilian personnel.  The non-uniform volunteer program provides an opportunity for community members from all backgrounds to be involved with the Hopkins Police Department and give back to the community.  

Duties and Responsibilities

Some of the duties of non-uniformed volunteers include:

  • Participation in various community outreach initiatives
  • Assist with National Night Out events
  • Complete various office/clerical assignments
  • Assist with conducting police department tours

Minimum Qualifications

To qualify to volunteer with the Hopkins Police Department, you must:

  • Be at least 16 years of age (with parental consent)
  • Have a valid driver's license (dependent on tasks assigned)
  • Have liability insurance for any personally owned equipment
  • Pass a criminal background check
  • Be able to lift up to 25 lbs.
